Backerkit Live!
about 2 months ago – Sun, Sep 29, 2024 at 12:03:30 AM

Hey folks! The Backerkit is now live and you should have your surveys in your inboxes. Let me or Backerkit support know if you are having any issues. You should also be able to preorder stuff now if you haven't backed!

The Ruins of Castle Gygar launches next week on the 4th (oh no). If everything goes on time for this project, I'm actually hoping that both it and Adventure Anthology will fulfill simultaneously, and I will offer combined shipping discounts for those who have backed both. We also have a new project launching on February 14th for Zinequest, and I think it's going to be something very different from what's out there.

Backerkit Dropping!
about 2 months ago – Mon, Sep 23, 2024 at 08:15:19 PM

Hey folks! Just some quick notes.

We're getting lots of art in--some of the modules are already completed!

In the mean time, we've finally got the Backerkit all set up. I have hit the button for the smoke test, in which 5% of you will get notifications to fill out the survey to make sure everything is sporkey donkey. When we see that it is, we'll send it to the rest of you, where you can modify your order, see your shipping charges, etc.

We are not shipping or charging cards at this time. We are planning to do this in December at the earliest and will give at least two weeks of advance notice when we do--we might even push it back to January if it's too close to the end of year holidays, as we'd rather folks have everything set up and get their stuff than struggle during an already hectic time financially.

If you're local to central Pennsylvania, I'll be running a table at Scifi Valley Con in Altoona, PA. You can pick up some stuff there before it hits online, like print versions of Lonely Mountain, Knights of Diamond, or the Tidal Wave Games 2024 Annual. I'll also be running some games, so come hang out if you're interested!

Last thing: If you're into OSR dungeon crawl stuff, we are running a second Kickstarter on October 4th for The Ruins of Castle Gygar, my #Dungeon23 project. 12 levels, 366 rooms, a full bestiary and magic items. The team for this project (besides me!) is entirely separate and its completion and fulfillment will not impact the fulfillment of Adventure Anthology, so you can feel assured that everything will go smoothly. It's got art from Chao and edited by Roz, so check it out!

That's all for now. We've got a lot going on behind the scenes and I'm so excited for you all to see it come to fruition. We can't do this without you and I'm glad you're here for the ride.

Steady as she goes!
3 months ago – Thu, Aug 29, 2024 at 12:16:35 AM

Hey folks! Thought it was a great opportunity for an update.

All modules have had their first draft submitted and layout started. Generally the process for these is something like this:

  • First draft submitted
  • I lay out the draft in my Affinity Publisher document, making edits & changes as necessary (mechanics clarifications, setup details, lore & setting changes & adjustments, etc.)
  • The writer and I review any areas that have extra white space for layout (as we only have so much budget for art)
  • The writer adds any needed extra content (sometimes this is tables, additional details or locations, procedures, etc.)
  • I revise the layout, usually one big revision is enough
  • We send the pages to art

I'm planning on having one last edit pass through someone else's eyes for clarity and to catch any "bugs" (things like missing pronouns, typos etc.) but not structural editing, since that's been one of my jobs on this one (as I didn't write much of the content).

We've also begun to get art in and it's looking great! We're super excited and I think this might be the most dope CUSC book yet.

Until next time: Take care of yourselves; take care of each other. Black Lives Matter. Trans Rights are Human Rights. ACAB. Make Art, Not Content. Death to the Algorithm.

Project Status Update
4 months ago – Sat, Jul 13, 2024 at 12:07:07 PM

Hey folks! It's been two weeks, Kickstarter has notified me that the money is going to my account, so it's time to update everyone on the exact status of the project!

So here's where we stand with each individual adventure:

  • NO FUCKIN' THANKS (Onslaught Six) - Writing & Layout Complete
  • TOYS IN THE ATTIC (Onslaught Six) - Writing, Layout & Art (by Billosopher) Complete
  • GARBAGE DAY! (Onslaught Six) - Writing & Layout Complete
  • HUSTLER'S DUET (Ryan Stevens) - Writing & Layout Complete
  • KNIFEROCK (Alex Keswick) - Writing & Layout Complete
  • DARK HARVEST (Adam Kovac) - Writing & Layout Complete
  • Adventure by Sarah Elkins - Awaiting first draft
  • Adventure by Maid of Tin - Awaiting first draft
  • Adventure by Farmer Gadda - Awaiting first draft
  • Adventure by Kyle Tam & Nemo - Awaiting first draft

As you can see, the way we've set this up is in a basic "tiered system." Several of the adventures are ready to go to art right now and I'll be talking to my art director areyoshi in a few days about assigning these to artists, then speaking to the individual artists about their assignments.

While those are being arted, I'll be talking to the remaining writers, giving them the briefs and tools that they'll need. (This basically amounts to a Google doc format.) Once those start coming in, I'll lay them out, go back to the writer if we need any adjustments or extra content, and then can send that to another artist. This means that something will always be in motion on the project as it goes and gets done.

Meanwhile: I have to send files to the printer for our new print runs, and be preparing for the local convention Game-A-Lot-A-Con on 8/24 and 8/25. If you're near the Altoona, PA area, swing by and grab some stuff!

Until next time: Take care of yourselves; take care of each other. Black Lives Matter. Trans Rights are Human Rights. ACAB. Death To The Algorithm.

First Stretch Goal Met!
5 months ago – Thu, Jun 27, 2024 at 04:47:44 AM

We've passed the $2300 mark, which meansFarmer Gaddawill be doing a bounty module for the book! I'm so excited to have Gadda on the team and can't wait to see what he makes.

We've got about $500 to go to reach our second goal and just 28 hours to go. Will we make it? Only you can help! Spread the word on your social medias, drop it in your Discords, tell random people on the street. Every bit helps!

Until next time: Take care of yourselves; take care of each other. Black Lives Matter. Trans Rights are Human Rights. ACAB. Death to the Algorithm.
